Description:

This webinar is a special presentation organized by the Canadian Association of School of Nursing (CASN) Digital Health Interest Group.

The implementation of digital health interventions in populations with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, asthma, depression) has been shown to simplify condition management, improve quality of care and patient outcomes, and enhance information sharing between patients, caregivers and providers. The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the need for effective digital health interventions for use in patient care. Nurse scientists are well-positioned to lead this digital health intervention research, however, in order to move the science of digital health research forward, a standardized set of competencies for educating future nurse scientists to conduct this work must be developed.

This webinar will present findings from a recently completed rapid review including the characteristics of digital health interventions that resulted in positive patient- and system-level outcomes for those with chronic conditions, as well as key recommendations for educating future nurse scientists to lead effective digital health interventions.

By the end of this webinar, participants will:

  1. Gain increased knowledge and understanding of digital health intervention research led by nurse scientists and the impact of these interventions on chronic condition support and management.
  2. Discuss recommendations for future nurse scientist education related to the knowledge, research and evidence, nursing practice, communication and collaboration, professionalism, and leadership in the design and implementation of digital health research.
